About Green Cafe Land
A small independent blog about coffee, and what it costs the planet to make it.
Almost everything written about sustainable coffee is written by someone selling coffee. That’s not a conspiracy, it’s just economics — roasters have the budget for content, and content that sells bags tends to end at the point where the story gets complicated.
We started Green Cafe Land in December 2024 because the complicated part is the interesting part. Shade-grown coffee really does support more bird species than a sun monoculture — and the certification that guarantees it covers a tiny fraction of world production. Compostable pods really are better in a life-cycle model — and most of them never reach an industrial composter. Oat milk really does cut the footprint of a latte substantially — and the milk, not the coffee, was always the bigger number.
None of that fits on a label. It fits in an article.

How we work
We publish reported summaries of other people’s research and journalism, always named and linked so you can go read the original; evergreen explainers on the things that come up over and over; opinion, labeled as opinion; short pieces about the daily ritual of drinking the stuff; and recipes and brew guides.
Every number here carries a source and a date, because coffee numbers go stale fast. Articles are researched and drafted with AI assistance and checked against their primary sources before publishing — we’d rather say that plainly than imply a newsroom we don’t have. We don’t invent quotes, statistics, people, or testimonials. The full version of all of this is in our editorial policy, including how we handle corrections and money.
Who we are
Green Cafe Land is independently run and not affiliated with any roaster, certifier, or trade body. Nobody pays us to cover anything. The site is supported by display advertising, and advertisers have no say in what appears here.
We’re not a laboratory or a certification body, and nothing here is dietary or medical advice. When we describe what research says, we’re reporting it, not endorsing it — and nutrition research in particular is contested and revised constantly.
